Amy Alsina has been teaching for over 7 years both privately and in the public schools. She graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Music Education. Amy started her musical career at age 11 playing the viola in middle school. In high school she continued playing the viola and decided teaching music was what she wanted to do. Through her education, Amy learned how to play and teach many instruments. She took private lessons in violin, cello, and piano in addition to the viola and took in depth classes learning how to teach brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. Also in college she played with the University of Wyoming Symphony Orchestra, the UW Chamber Orchestra, and many small ensembles.

Amy has experience teaching both privately and in group classes. She taught for six years for the University of Wyoming String Project and became assistant director and lead teacher. While with the String Project she taught private lessons in violin, viola, cello and double bass for a variety of students at many levels. Amy also teaches general music at a Denver elementary school.

Amy believes in a positive approach to teaching her students. She believes in teaching students the skills they need through fun and challenging music at a comfortable pace. Every child can learn how to play an instrument. In Amy’s teaching she uses a modified Suzuki approach utilizing Rolland and Alexander Technique practices as well to teach in a way that is best for the students’ mind and body.
