Stephan Clardy

Stephan has been involved with music throughout his entire life. He began playing drum set for his church at the young age of 7. His formal music education began in fourth grade, when he learned to play the clarinet. He was a part of a Denver Public School program whose goal was to expose more kids to the musical arts. He went on to play the clarinet and bass clarinet throughout middle school, while continuing to play the drums for his father’s church on the weekends. In high school, he joined the school’s Winter Percussion ensemble and also played vibraphone for 3 years. He went on to take a percussion class taught by Randy Gregory.

Stephen attended Grace University where he studied Music Theory and Composition as well Percussion Performance. He studied under Joshua Austin and Jaxon Berke (Writer for Mannheim Steamroller). While at Grace, he joined an independent Winter Percussion ensemble, Dojo Percussion, and played marimba for the group for two years. He was fortunate enough to earn the group their first-ever gold medal at the WGI world championships.

After Dojo, Stephan went on to perform with the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps, playing vibraphone. He returned home to Colorado and joined an up-and-coming ensemble, Rise Percussion. He also joined the tech staff of the Denver Citywide Percussion Ensemble. He taught there for three years, earning the group its first ever RMPA state finals appearance.

Currently, Stephan is in his third year of teaching at Evergreen High School. With his help and coaching, his students have gone on to be a part of The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps as well as Rise Percussion - the very group Stephan himself had been a part of. He also has written for the Evergreen Winter Percussion ensemble, earning them a bronze medal at the RMPA Championships. To this day, Stephan has a passion for sharing all that he has learned (and continues to learn) with the next generation of young performers.
