Paul Hurd has been teaching drum lessons for over 15 years and has been with In Home Music Teachers since 2011.

Paul specializes in teaching beginning and intermediate drummers; helping them to develop the skills and musical vocabulary they need to play music in school orchestras, rock bands, jazz bands, or to simply jam with family and friends. He provides a learning environment that facilitates growth and appreciation of music by focusing on the student's interests, while introducing drumming fundamentals, note reading, rudiments, and various styles of drumming.

Having studied the guitar as a second instrument, Paul is happy to give students an opportunity to apply what they have learned on drums by accompanying them on his guitar at their lessons. Learning to play along with others is an important skill for aspiring musicians, and Paul has observed that by offering this experience to students, they continue to be inspired in their learning and develop the confidence and skills to play music outside of their lessons.

Paul has been drumming for more than 30 years. His drumming and guitar playing skills are diverse, and cover many genres of music including Rock, Funk, Grunge, Blues, Jazz, Afro Cuban, Surf, Punk, Bossa Nova, and more. Throughout the years, he has had the good fortune to have studied with notable drummers such as Tony Braunagel, Peter Erskine, David Garibaldi and Jeff Hamilton. Paul has performed in many venues across the United States, including the Bluebird Theater and Dazzle Jazz in Denver, The El Rey Theater in Los Angeles, and The Bowery Ballroom in New York City.

Some of Paul's current students have been with him for 7 years or more! These students are excelling in their school music programs, some have their own bands, and some are even performing at local clubs. For the past several years, Paul has given his students an opportunity to play live at the Mercury Cafe in Denver with a professional backing band, comprised of some of Denver's finest musicians.
