Clarinet

Elsbeth Williams has enjoyed playing the clarinet for nearly 20 years. She received her first clarinet in the 3rd grade, at which point she started taking private lessons. As a high school senior, she won a music scholarship to the University of Denver where she ultimately received her Bachelor of Music degree in Clarinet Performance in 2007. Elsbeth also holds a BA in International Studies and a MA in International Administration.

Elsbeth performs regularly with the Colorado Wind Ensemble, Colorado’s premiere “wind orchestra.” The CWE presents music from all eras, including Renaissance ensembles, Baroque works, classical chamber pieces, military and symphonic band works, as well as contemporary compositions from all over the world. Elsbeth is also active teaching, leading master classes, participating in solo and ensemble festivals, and playing chamber music.

One of the highlights of Elsbeth’s clarinet career thus far has been studying and performing with celebrated clarinetist Roger Salander in Vienna, Austria at the Institute for European Studies – a prestigious and well regarded performance program in Europe. She has given concerts in France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and Luxembourg. In addition to traveling, Elsbeth has participated in master classes with renowned artists such as John Bruce Yeh and Paquito D’Rivera. She continues to develop her love for music and her technique as a player by working at the Lamont School of Music and studying with Dr. Jeremy Reynolds.

As a clarinet teacher, Elsbeth believes that playing and performing music is a wonderful way to develop self discipline, creativity, technique, expression, and cognitive dexterity. She has high expectations, while at the same time recognizing that it is important for each course of study to reflect the needs and goals of every student. She believes music should be a source of enjoyment as well as an avenue for exploring new places, discovering rich histories, and challenging ourselves to express a wide range of emotions and ideas.

Outside the studio, Elsbeth loves to be in the great outdoors and is often busy scaling 14ers (big 14,000 foot mountains), cycling through the Rocky Mountain front range, spending time with her wonderful friends, and most likely planning out her next big adventure.
