Trumpet and Piano

Aaron Olson has had a lifelong appreciation for music, which has led to a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree. Although his primary instrument is the trumpet, he can play and teach brass, percussion, and woodwind instruments. Throughout his academic career he has taught music privately and in group settings as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Denver Lamont School of Music, as an undergraduate in the local middle school system near West Texas A&M University.

From the beginning Aaron has strived to be the best he can be, winning awards and performing at a high level. This is reflected in his performances in many All Region, All Area, and All State ensembles in his home state of Texas. After graduating from high school Aaron attended the West Texas A&M University School of Music where he studied under Dr. William Takacs and performed in almost every ensemble and genre of music, receiving his Bachelor of Music degree in 2019. While there Aaron received top honors such as first chair, principal trumpet, lead trumpet, toured Europe with the University Symphony Orchestra as a first-year student and competed all 4 years at the National Trumpet Competition. Attending the University of Denver on a scholarship and studying with Mr. Alan Hood and receiving a Master of Music degree, is the culmination of years of challenging work, musical knowledge, and performance. Mr. Olson continues to perform professionally in the Denver Area.

Through all this experience Aaron has learned to listen, follow, lead, and most importantly adapt depending on the situation. Having the benefit of studying with exceptional musicians and professors has taught him the basics along with the intricacies of music instruction and performance. From understanding your instrument, to sight reading, preparing for concerts and recitals, music composition and theory, Aaron enjoys introducing people of any age to the gift and experience of music making.

As a musician driven to perform at the highest level, Aaron passionately believes that “the more you learn and play, the more you want to share the experience.” When teaching elementary and middle school age children Aaron has seen what an impact music has on others. That moment you see someone create music and share it is the reason he keeps pursing this path. “Music builds better people, better students, and enhances every aspect of life.”
