Patty Shaw began her musical studies at the age of 8 and has enjoyed a successful performing career since 1979. She studied music with the late Johnny Haws of Denver for most of her adolescent years. She then attended the University of Colorado at Boulder on a music scholarship and studied woodwinds with Dr. Phillip Aaholm and Jazz with Jack Foote.

Patty was a loyal member of The John Philip Sousa Concert Band for 10 years under the direction of Jack Bailey and The Aurora Symphony. She plays with the Metro State College Community Concert Band under the direction of Gerald Endsley, and played in several swing bands in the Denver area. She plays in a 9-piece jam, blues, and contemporary band, The Coyote Poets of the Universe. The band's latest CD received 3½ stars in Downbeat Jazz Magazine. She also has her own music business, playing for weddings and other events.

Patty has performed special shows for tap dancer Arthur Duncan from the Lawrence Welk Show when he appeared at the Colorado Convention Center in 2006. She also traveled on the Norwegian Dawn cruise ship for two Jazz cruises and played with some of the finest jazz musicians from around the world, including Lou Donaldson and alto saxophonist and bassist Rufus Reed.

Patty teaches private saxophone lessons on all horns and is involved with the school systems, giving Jazz clinics around the Denver area. She also volunteers at Craig Hospital in music therapy, performing to the paralyzed patients, and travels to several nursing homes in the Denver to perform. Patty also finds time to play her guitar, clarinet, and flute, writes poetry, and is an avid tennis player.
