Guitar, Piano

Vincent Russo began his musical journey when he was 10 years old. Almost two decades later, he is still as excited about learning and understanding the craft of music as he was then. He started with guitar in 2001, then became fascinated by the piano in 2009 and has been playing both instruments devotedly ever since. Initially self-taught on the piano, Vincent applied his prior music theory knowledge that he had gained from the guitar. Later, in his studies at Metro State University, he learned about piano pedagogy in more depth, including scales, arpeggios, and voice-leading exercises. He has been in numerous bands and written his own material. In high school he started a guitar club, an organization for students to get together and play their instruments; this club still exists today.

Vincent grew up with a love for rock n’ roll music: AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, and more; this was the music that inspired him to begin playing guitar as a kid. Later, he branched out into alternative music like Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins, and more. Over the years he began to love Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Ravel, and Debussy; all the great composers of centuries past. Then he got into Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dave Brubeck, Vince Guaraldi, Bill Evans and so many other jazz greats. Vincent's musical tastes are quite eclectic; as a teacher he can work with anyone on any style they wish. There is something to take from every style of music, from Metallica to Bach to Taylor Swift to John Mayer. It is Vincent's firm belief that music should inspire people, not be extra homework after school is over; it should be fun and exciting, not boring and laborious.

As a teacher, Vincent's first goal for any student is to be sure they have fun with it! Music can seem daunting at first, but if you stick with it, the rewards are endless. There is no better feeling than finally being able to play your favorite artist’s song. He is patient and a good listener; he is passionate about helping students pursue their musical journey and get on the right track to accomplishing their musical goals.
