Joia Hansen's musical journey began at the tender age of 11 when he first sat down at a piano, captivated by the instrument's potential to express a wide range of emotions. Growing up in a household rich with diverse musical influences, he was immersed in various genres, from classical to rock, which sparked his passion for music. As he matured, this fascination deepened, revealing a world of sounds and styles that he yearned to explore.
During high school, Joia had the transformative experience of studying abroad in Spain, where he discovered the art of digital music production. Self-taught, he spent countless hours experimenting with beats and melodies, merging traditional influences with contemporary techniques. This new skill set allowed him to blend his classical training with modern music styles, broadening his artistic horizons.
Upon returning to the States, Joia turned his attention to the blues, a genre that resonated with him for its emotional depth and improvisational spirit. His college years were pivotal as he delved into jazz, guided by the wisdom and encouragement of his instructor, Warren Gaughan. Under Warren's mentorship, Joia learned that true musicianship extends beyond technical proficiency; it involves a deep understanding of music theory, a commitment to creative exploration, and, most importantly, an emphasis on enjoying the process of making music.
Today, Joia thrives as a full-time piano teacher, music production mentor, D.J., and engineer. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music (B.M.) degree at Metropolitan State University of Denver, focusing on the Jazz and American Improvised Music Performance track. His teaching philosophy centers on fostering joy and passion in his students, encouraging them to embrace their musical journeys, no matter where they may lead. Through his guidance, Joia hopes to inspire the next generation of musicians to find their unique voices and share their love of music with the world.
