Scott's musical journey began at the tender age of seven, when he embarked on piano lessons. His inspiration came from his father, a skilled player of the Scottish bagpipes, and his mother, who played the oboe during her high school days. This early exposure to music ignited a spark in Scott that has continued to burn brightly.

He took up sax in 5th grade and drums in 9th at the request of the high school band teacher, who was less than impressed with the sax skills on display at the time. Two years after the switch, he was selected for the Virginia All-State Orchestra. Participation in college orchestra and jazz ensembles followed. As is typical for some teenage boys, he fell in love with the guitar, which began occupying more time.

Fast-forward a few years. He began teaching guitar, bass guitar, and drums at Capital City Guitars in Olympia, WA, after working as a DJ on the radio and in a nightclub or two. In 1998, he released the CD "So It Happens" on his own label, then spent time in a blues band, a jam band, a country band or two, a rock band or two, and a dance band.

In 2014, he graduated from St. Martin's University in Lacey, WA, with a Masters in Teaching, with endorsements in Mathematics and Humanities.

One of his career highlights came when Sabyu, a former student, appeared on the show America's Song Contest and is teaching another generation how to play guitar. He also backed up his daughter while she sang Owl City's "Fireflies" to her 3rd-grade class.
