Drum, Piano
Matthew Brown discovered his passion for music at an early age, beginning his musical journey in third grade with encouragement from his parents. His early explorations included playing keyboard pianos and violin in elementary school, but in middle school, he found his true love: percussion. This pivotal moment set the stage for a lifelong dedication to music.
Driven by a desire to excel, Matthew earned recognition in all-region competitions and consistently secured top chair positions in competitive ensembles. By high school, he was a standout performer in Symphonic Winds, Jazz Band (on drum set), and Marching Band. At just 16 years old, he knew music was his calling.
After a rigorous audition process, Matthew was accepted to his dream schools—Berklee College of Music and the University of North Texas—and ultimately chose UNT. There, he earned his Bachelor of Music in Music Performance with a specialization in percussion. Throughout his time at UNT, he studied and performed alongside exceptional musicians in renowned ensembles, gaining invaluable experience that shaped his musicianship.
Matthew remains an active performer, regularly playing at events and clubs across his region. While he thrives in jazz and Top 40 genres—his favorite gig settings—his true musical passion lies in metal. His commitment extends beyond the stage to the studio, where he collaborates with talented producers and has earned recognition for his production work. This balance between performance and production enables him to bring both stage-tested and studio-refined insights to his teaching.
Inspired by mentors like Dr. Aaron Mobley and Joe Perea—whom he describes as exceptionally talented and creatively inspiring—Matthew aims to bring out the best in his students. His teaching journey began by mentoring his younger brother and evolved into a lifelong passion for helping others grow through music.
Matthew's teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that learning music should be inspiring, not intimidating. His lessons blend structure with creativity, offering an engaging and positive environment where every milestone is celebrated. Students can expect a strong foundation in rhythm, technique, and theory, alongside personalized instruction tailored to their goals—whether it's mastering favorite songs, aceing auditions, or simply jamming with friends. With a focus on real-world musicianship, he incorporates play-alongs, improvisation, and performance to bring music to life. Above all, Matthew wants his students to have fun and leave each lesson feeling accomplished and excited for what's next.
